Greek opposition parties are weighing a no-confidence motion against the government following new information about the Tempe train disaster and Prime Minister’s contradictory statements regarding the freight train’s cargo. SYRIZA leader Sokratis Famellos has reportedly contacted center-left and left-wing party leaders to discuss a joint submission. While PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis prefers to wait for forthcoming expert reports to bolster their argument, Famellos has already spoken with leaders from New Left, Plefsi Eleftherias, and the Communist Party (KKE). SYRIZA claims 43 MPs have signed on, though 50 are required. KKE will support the motion but won’t co-sign. Stefanos Kasselakis’ Democracy Movement will support a PASOK-led motion after the National Technical University of Athens releases its report.
