A 13-year-old girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend have been arrested on a remote Dodecanese island for allegedly plotting to murder the girl’s mother. According to reports, the teens believed the mother was an obstacle to their relationship.
The plot was uncovered when the mother discovered disturbing messages on her daughter’s social media accounts. The messages revealed the boyfriend encouraging the daughter to harm her, and subsequent investigation revealed the girl had attempted to poison her mother with rat poison in food and drinks. When this failed, a knife was obtained, allegedly provided by the boyfriend.
The mother’s discovery of the knife and further incriminating online conversations, where the boy pressured the girl to carry out the plan and issued threats when she wavered, led her to contact authorities. Police intervened, confiscating the knife and the messages. The girl confessed to attempting to poison her mother and obtaining the knife from her boyfriend’s home.
The teens were arrested and are facing attempted murder charges, as well as charges related to domestic violence and weapons offenses. The case has been referred to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office.
The girl’s behavior had reportedly changed drastically since the relationship began in September 2024. She began staying out late, engaging in risky behaviors like smoking and excessive energy drink consumption, exhibiting aggression towards her parents, and neglecting school and medical treatment. Concerned, the parents sought professional help, and a psychologist determined the girl was being heavily influenced by her boyfriend.
This disturbing case highlights the importance of parental vigilance regarding teen relationships and the potential dangers of online communication. It also underscores the need for readily available psychological support for adolescents experiencing sudden behavioral changes. The incident has shocked the community and raised questions about the complexities of parental intervention, the manipulative nature of some teen relationships, and the dark side of online interactions.
