Western Attica has seen a major crackdown on crime over the past seven months, with over 53,000 checks and more than 1,000 arrests, according to a report submitted to the Greek Parliament by Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection Ioannis Lambropoulos.
The document, released as part of parliamentary oversight, highlights intensified police efforts in the region, including the deployment of four patrol cars and six DIAS motorcycle units daily in the Municipality of Acharnes.
The data was provided in response to a question from independent MP Ioannis Dimitrokallis, following an alarming incident in Menidi where a stray bullet lodged in a child’s car seat.
Hundreds Arrested in Sweeping Operations
The report details that between August 1, 2024, and March 6, 2025, the Western Attica Police Directorate conducted 23,790 vehicle checks, 53,619 individual inspections, 5,608 detentions, and 1,027 arrests for various offences. As part of targeted operations by the Western Attica Sub-Directorate for Crime Investigation and Prosecution, four criminal organisations were dismantled, resulting in 14 additional arrests. These efforts underscore the authorities’ commitment to tackling lawlessness in the area.
Enhanced Policing in Acharnes
In the Municipality of Acharnes, policing has been bolstered with a daily, round-the-clock presence of four patrol cars and six DIAS teams from the Attica Immediate Action Directorate, alongside OPKE units from the Attica Crime Investigation and Prosecution Directorate. Deputy Minister Lambropoulos emphasised that an updated operational policing plan is in effect, featuring reinforced police presence and specialized actions to combat specific forms of delinquency and reduce crime.
The intensified measures reflect a broader strategy to enhance safety and security in Western Attica, a region long challenged by criminal activity, as authorities work to restore order and protect residents.
