Greek Deputy FM Chatzivasileiou Visits Ukraine: Peace and Rapid Reconstruction Are Essential

Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Tasos Chatzivasileiou conducted a working visit to Kyiv, where he held meetings with Ukrainian government officials and representatives of the Greek Embassy, emphasising the need for peace and the swift rebuilding of the war-torn country.

Chatzivasileiou, the Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, engaged in bilateral discussions with Ukrainian ministers, focusing on Ukraine’s reconstruction, energy needs, and opportunities for economic cooperation between Greece and Ukraine. According to a statement from the Greek Foreign Ministry, upon his arrival in Kyiv, Chatzivasileiou laid a wreath at the Monument to Fallen Soldiers, honoring the memory of those who sacrificed their lives defending Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.

Key Meetings
During his visit, Chatzivasileiou met with several high-ranking Ukrainian officials, including Minister of State Oleh Nemchinov, Deputy Foreign Minister Olexandr Mischenko, Deputy Minister for Reconstruction Aliona Shkrum, Deputy Economy Minister Andrii Teliupa, and Deputy Energy Minister Roman Andarak. In these discussions, he highlighted the readiness of Greek businesses to contribute to Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts and stressed the potential for deeper bilateral ties and investment opportunities.

Additionally, Chatzivasileiou held talks with Ukrainian experts and think tank representatives at the Greek Embassy in Kyiv, joined by Greek Ambassador Alexandros Dimitrakopoulos.

A Call for Peace and Support
Following the meetings, Chatzivasileiou addressed the press, stating: “I am visiting Kyiv at a time when securing a ceasefire is a top priority. I discussed with Ukrainian ministers the reconstruction of their country, investments in energy infrastructure, and the strengthening of economic ties between Greece and Ukraine. Achieving peace and accelerating the rebuilding process are critical to ending the daily nightmare faced by Ukraine’s citizens. Among them are thousands of Greek expatriates, and the Greek Foreign Ministry stands firmly by their side.”
