A new group of 77 migrants was spotted off the coast of Gavdos on Monday morning (April 7, 2025), triggering a response from the Hellenic Coast Guard.

According to initial reports, all the migrants are male. The group was located by a Coast Guard vessel and is expected to be transported to the port of Paleochora late Monday evening, before being transferred to the Agyia Exhibition Center in Chania.

The prolonged good weather in recent weeks has led to an increase in migrant crossings from North Africa to Greek islands. Local authorities have expressed concerns about a potential surge in arrivals as summer approaches.
