Brazilian former footballer Cristian Ricardo Da Costa, who made his mark in Greek football with Aris, Panionios, and Thrasyvoulos, has passed away at the age of 45 while vacationing with his family in Santorini.
According to Santonews.com, Da Costa was admitted to a local hospital after experiencing a sudden medical condition on Saturday, August 23, 2025. Doctors recommended his transfer to Athens for further tests and treatment, but he reportedly suffered a severe health episode before the move. Despite their efforts, medical staff were unable to revive him.
Da Costa began his career in Brazil before moving to Greece, where he became a familiar face in the domestic league. After stints with Aris and Panionios in the Super League, as well as Thrasyvoulos in the Second Division, he chose to remain in Greece following his retirement from professional football. He married a Greek woman, with whom he had a daughter, and settled with his family in Glyfada.
News of his death has cast a shadow over the Greek football community, where he was remembered not only as a talented player but also as a man who made Greece his home.
