Prince Nikolaos, known for his deep affection for Greece, has once again made headlines with his visit to the prestigious Art Athina contemporary art fair. His admiration for the country was evident when he expressed, “I love Greece. I always have. That’s why I came, and I will never leave. It has a light that is not accidental. It is difficult to describe, but it is so intense, it’s dazzling, yet soft at the same time. It beautifully colors everything it touches.”

Held annually, Art Athina brings together local and international artists, providing a platform for their creativity. This year, one of the standout presentations at the event was from Stefanidou Tsoukala Gallery, showcasing the timeless beauty of Greek design. The exhibition, titled "The Klismos Chair: A Seat Through Time", explores one of the most iconic pieces of ancient Greek design. It bridges classical antiquity with modern creation, emphasizing sustainability for the future.

Among the captivating works displayed at Art Athina, a striking triptych by Prince Nikolaos caught the eye of visitors. The artwork beautifully captured the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion, an ancient monument that stands as a symbol of Greece’s deep connection to the sea, mythology, and classical architecture. Prince Nikolaos’s personal experience at the temple was emotional, recalling his visit several years ago. “I went very early in the morning because I wanted to see the monument alone, with this beautiful light. There’s a gorgeous light in the afternoon too, but it’s then filled with tourists. I arrived when no one else was there, just me, and I felt the energy of the place,” he recalled.
The photograph, taken during this personal visit, presents the temple in black and white, offering a timeless perspective of this iconic site. Prince Nikolaos suggests that others visit such monuments during off-peak tourist seasons, like February, to experience their true energy without the crowds.
Although his artistic focus is primarily on Greece, Prince Nikolaos has also captured stunning aerial views of the rugged mountains of Pakistan and a series of photos from the desert. Yet, it is Greece’s light that continues to inspire his work. “I’ve become an artist. I do other things, but this is what expresses me. It gets me out of bed in the morning and puts a smile on my face. Art fills me. And having the opportunity to contribute to it with my works is the greatest gift I could ever receive.”
Prince Nikolaos’s deep connection to Greece and its light continues to shape both his art and his life, cementing his place as an ambassador of Greek culture through his photography and creative expression.
