Rising Greek-Australian tennis star Tahlia-Archontoula Kokkinis has received a major boost in her young professional career, earning a qualifying wildcard for the women's singles at the Australian Open 2026.

The 17-year-old from Brisbane, who proudly carries her Greek heritage, will join a strong contingent of 12 Australian women in the qualifying draw, set to begin on January 12 at Melbourne Park.

Kokkinis, born to Greek parents and with family roots tracing back to Greece, has been turning heads throughout 2025. Earlier this year, she made a memorable run to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open junior girls' singles as a wildcard entry, defeating higher-ranked opponents and thrilling home crowds with her fighting spirit and powerful groundstrokes.

That deep run at her home Grand Slam helped propel her up the junior rankings to around world No. 35, while she has also successfully transitioned to the professional circuit, competing in ITF events and climbing to a career-high WTA ranking in the mid-600s.

Now, this qualifying wildcard offers Kokkinis the chance to potentially make her main draw debut at the Australian Open on the WTA tour – a significant milestone for the talented right-hander.

She will be one of seven Australians receiving qualifying wildcards in the women's field, alongside names like Destanee Aiava, Lizette Cabrera, Storm Hunter, and others.
