Positive signs are emerging for a 3-year-old child from Volos who developed encephalitis as a complication of the flu, medical sources report. The child, who was hospitalized on December 28 at the University Hospital of Larissa, has reportedly “awakened” from a lethargic state and is showing steady progress.
According to the child’s family, the toddler is now eating and demonstrating significant improvement. Doctors caution that full recovery will take additional time, but the child’s condition has given hope for a possible discharge in the coming days.

The child first fell ill in the days following Christmas, experiencing high fever and vomiting. Concerned parents initially sought care at Achillopouleio Hospital in Volos, where the flu diagnosis was confirmed along with the serious complication of encephalitis. Due to the severity of the condition, the child was transferred the next morning to the University Hospital of Larissa for specialized care.
Hospital staff and the child’s family report daily improvements and remain optimistic that the child will regain full strength. Medical professionals continue to monitor the patient's recovery closely, emphasizing the critical nature of encephalitis while noting encouraging progress.
