Athens Taxi Strike Continues January 15, 2026: Convoy to Maximos Mansion Planned

The taxi strike in Athens and Attica will continue on Thursday, January 15, 2026, with taxi drivers planning a vehicle convoy heading toward the Maximos Mansion (the Prime Minister's residence).

Taxis are set to gather at around 10:00 a.m. at the offices of the Attica Taxi Drivers’ Union (SATA) on Marni Street. From there, they will depart in a convoy and attempt to approach the Maximos Mansion as part of their ongoing protest actions.

This follows Wednesday's demonstration, where taxis assembled at the junction of Athinon Avenue and Spyrou Patsi Street, proceeded through Metaxourgeio, Alexandras Avenue, and Mesogeion Avenue, and reached the Ministry of Transport. There, SATA president Thymios Lyberopoulos emphasized their determination, stating: “We will take this struggle all the way,” regardless of efforts to divide the drivers.

The actions stem from the broader rolling 48-hour strikes that began earlier in the week, primarily in opposition to government policies including the mandated transition to electric vehicles for new taxis starting in 2026, amid concerns over infrastructure, costs, and economic impacts on the sector. Union leaders have indicated that mobilizations may continue indefinitely until demands are met.
