Local authorities ordered all schools and childcare centres to remain closed on Thursday in Mytilene, Western Lesvos, Chios, Eastern Samos and Western Samos, citing severe weather conditions expected to affect the regions.
Mayors in the affected municipalities took the decision as a precautionary measure, extending closures to nurseries and daycare centres due to adverse weather forecasts.
In contrast, schools in the Attica region will operate normally on Thursday, January 22, as weather conditions show signs of improvement.
In an official statement, the Attica Regional Authority clarified that Governor Nikos Hardalias ordered school closures only for Wednesday, January 21, following recommendations from the Risk Assessment Committee, Civil Protection authorities and the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).
The statement confirmed that updated meteorological models no longer justify extended closures, allowing primary, secondary and evening schools across Attica to resume normal operations on Thursday.
