Fifth Body Recovered After Deadly Explosion at Trikala Biscuit Factory

Tragedy in Trikala: 3 workers dead in the ashes of "Violanta"

The fifth body has been recovered following the tragic explosion and fire at the Violanta biscuit factory in Trikala, central Greece, bringing the confirmed death toll to five, authorities confirmed on Monday.

Fire brigade teams, working through extensive debris and structural collapse at the site, located the remains of the final missing worker—a woman—during ongoing search and recovery operations. The four other victims, also women, were recovered earlier in the day, with family members now being notified for formal identification.

Seven individuals were injured in the incident, including one firefighter; all are reported to be in stable condition.

The blast occurred shortly after 4 a.m. during the night shift, causing a major section of the factory to collapse amid the ensuing blaze. At the time, 13 people were believed to be inside the facility.

Arson and fire investigators continue to probe the cause, with early indications pointing to a gas leak igniting at the factory's gas-operated furnaces as the most likely trigger. Further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
