International media outlets have recognized the Greek island of Ios as one of the most distinctive travel destinations in Greece and Europe for 2026.
British newspaper The Times named Ios Town among the 25 most beautiful villages in Greece, highlighting its “charming cube-shaped houses” and winding alleys that lead to the Church of Panagia Gremiotissa, offering panoramic sea views and breathtaking sunsets. The report also noted Ios’ historical attractions, including the ancient city of Skarkos, dating back to 2300 BCE, and the Tomb of Homer.
Italian travel website Wom.Travel.it ranked Ios ninth among 14 “next-generation” European destinations that combine nightlife, outdoor activities, and cultural experiences. The website emphasized that young travelers increasingly choose locations offering both entertainment and opportunities to engage with nature and local culture.
French travel guide Petite Fute also included Ios in its annual list of the best Greek islands, citing its unique appeal and quality of life for both visitors and residents. The island’s mayor, Gikas Gikas, stated that Ios aims not only to enrich the tourist experience but also to enhance living conditions for its local community.
The Municipality of Ios secured funding from the Ministry of Interior to repair infrastructure damages, with an allocated budget of €100,000. Additionally, the construction of a new indoor sports complex, with an investment of €1.862 million, has been included in the Public Investment Program for the first time. The facility will serve both residents and tourists and will feature two main sections: the indoor gymnasium with a main competition and training area and spectator seating, and a second section with two full athlete locker units, accessible facilities for people with disabilities, a referee changing room, administrative offices, and a medical room.
