Tickets are on sale now for Sydney-siders to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Greek music icon Mimis Plessas with a grand tribute at the City Recital Hall. Presented by the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW, the event, titled "100 Years Mimis Plessas: A Living Tribute with Dimitris Basis", will feature an international lineup of acclaimed musicians and a full symphony orchestra.
Dimitris Basis, a platinum-selling singer and longtime collaborator of Mikis Theodorakis, will headline the evening, performing Plessas’ timeless hits such as Pios to Xerei and Tosa Kalokeria. Australian conductor George Ellis, renowned for directing the Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony and collaborating with the Sydney Symphony and Hans Zimmer, will lead the orchestra.

George Ellis said, “Mimis Plessas is a titan of melody whose work transcends borders. Conducting a full symphony orchestra to honour his 100th year is a profound honour. We will bring fresh, cinematic energy while respecting the nostalgia of his legendary film scores.”
Mary Yiakoulis, a classically trained flautist and vocalist, will add a unique fusion of jazz-blues and traditional Greek music, bridging contemporary sounds with ancestral melodies.
The City Recital Hall, known for its world-class acoustics and intimate atmosphere, provides an ideal stage for this once-in-a-lifetime performance. The tribute promises a deeply personal and culturally resonant celebration of Plessas’ unparalleled musical legacy.
