PM Mitsotakis receives Archbishop of Australia Makarios

The meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, took place in a particularly warm atmosphere at the Maximos Mansion.

At the start of their meeting at the Maximos Mansion, Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his delight at the encounter, noting that his visit to Australia is approaching soon. He emphasized that, after a long time, a Greek Prime Minister will visit the country on the occasion of March 25 to meet with the dynamic Greek diaspora.

The Prime Minister stressed that he hopes the legislation allowing Greeks in Australia to vote by mail in the upcoming national elections will have been passed by then with an increased (supermajority) majority. He described it as a historic achievement for Hellenism. At the same time, he noted that he is personally working to announce the double taxation avoidance agreement, which is crucial for those conducting business between the two countries.

For his part, Archbishop Makarios replied that the Greek community is eagerly awaiting the Prime Minister, as his visit will not be merely ceremonial but substantive. He acknowledged the efforts being made on behalf of the Greeks of Australia, addressing Kyriakos Mitsotakis as the “Prime Minister of the Diaspora” and emphasizing that his work is deeply appreciated by all Hellenism in the region.
