Christos Yannaras, the renowned philosophy professor, author, and columnist, passed away on Sunday (24/08) at the age of 89.
The news of his death was announced by his son via Facebook.
Christos Yannaras was a distinguished Greek philosopher, theologian, and university professor, known for his work in philosophy, theology, and political thought.
He was born on April 10, 1935, in Athens and studied in Athens, Paris, and Bonn.
Yannaras taught as a Professor of Philosophy at Panteion University of Athens and authored numerous books, articles, and essays exploring topics such as the relationship between Greek Orthodoxy and philosophy, the crisis of modern civilization, and the political and social situation in Greece.
He also wrote columns for many years in the newspaper "Kathimerini" as well as other newspapers.
He was a fellow of the German "Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung" Foundation and was an elected member of the Society of Greek Writers, as well as the International Academy of Human Sciences (Academie International des Sciences Humaines, Brussels).
