Municipal offices across Greece will remain closed today, Friday, March 21, as public sector workers participate in a 24-hour nationwide strike called by the Panhellenic Federation of Local Government Employees (POE-OTA).
Citizens hoping to access municipal services will face disruptions, as the union demands the permanent hiring of workers in social programs funded by the EU’s ESPA framework.
The strike, supported by the Executive Committee of ADEDY (the Civil Servants’ Confederation), includes a protest rally scheduled for 11 a.m. outside the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family (Dragatsaniou 8), followed by a march to the Ministry of Interior (Vas. Sofias 15). Union leaders and workers are expected to turn out in force to press their case.
In a related development, the Federation of Secondary Education Teachers (OLME) has announced a three-hour work stoppage starting at 11 a.m., calling for the withdrawal of disciplinary actions against educators linked to performance evaluations.
This wave of industrial action highlights ongoing labour tensions in the public sector.
