The Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas, Damaskinos, passed away.
The beloved Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas, Mr. Damaskinos (Papagiannakis), fell asleep in the Lord today after a long ordeal with health issues.

Until his final days, he remained devoted to his ministry, serving his flock with tireless love. His departure leaves a deep and irreplaceable void in the Church and among the people who surrounded him with respect and affection.

According to information from neakriti.gr, the late Hierarch was born in 1958 in Chania. He attended the Ecclesiastical School of Crete and later the Theological School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He pursued postgraduate studies in the field of Worship and Art, earning a Master’s Degree of Specialization.

In 1976, he was tonsured a monk, and in 1981, he was ordained a deacon, followed by his ordination as a presbyter in 1982. In 2001, he was appointed Vicar General of the Holy Metropolis of Kydonia and Apokoronas by the then Metropolitan, Mr. Irineos. On November 7, 2006, he was unanimously elected by the Holy Provincial Synod of the Church of Crete as the Metropolitan of the same Metropolis, where he served with integrity, spirituality, and dedication until the end of his earthly journey.
