SEOUL, April 8 (Reuters) – HD Hyundai Mipo Co, a South Korean shipbuilding company, confirmed on Tuesday that it is engaged in negotiations for a new contract, according to a regulatory filing. The statement follows a report by local newspaper Seoul Shinmun claiming the firm is poised to secure a $1.55 billion order.
The report, which cited unnamed industry sources, stated that HD Hyundai Mipo, alongside its affiliate HD Hyundai Samho, has signed a letter of intent to construct 20 container ships for a Greek shipowner, with deliveries scheduled for 2027-28. The company’s filing acknowledged the talks but provided no additional specifics about the potential agreement.
