In a monumental moment for international basketball, two of Europe’s most storied clubs—Panathinaikos BC AKTOR of Greece and KK Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade of Serbia—will travel to Australia this September to compete in the Pavlos Giannakopoulos Tournament, hosted for the first time outside of Europe by the National Basketball League (NBL).
A stunning drone show lit up Sydney’s Opera House sky, honoring Panathinaikos and the “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament with 600 drones forming team logos, flags, and a tribute to the legendary figure.
Panathinaikos FC plans to expand its global presence by hosting the “Pavlos Giannakopoulos” tournament in Australia in September 2025. Following the success of the event at Kallimarmaro, the club aims to bring the tournament to Sydney and Melbourne, where the strong Greek community will have the chance to connect with Ergin Ataman’s team. The tournament will feature two Australian teams, along with Partizan, and will honor the legacy of Pavlos Giannakopoulos.
In a packed Kallimarmaro, bathed in the light of history and love for Panathinaikos, PAO AKTOR honored the memory of the great Pavlos Giannakopoulos. Approximately 35,000 fans of the “Greens” created a magical atmosphere, reviving memories of legendary nights in the historic stadium.
