Russia to Uphold Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today that Moscow is fully committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, during discussions with Akan Rakhmetullin, chairman of the second session of the Preparatory Committee of the 2026 NPT Review Conference, reiterated Russia's steadfast opposition to the proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The dialogue centred on pertinent matters concerning the ongoing review cycle of the NPT, which commenced in 2023. Ryabkov and Rakhmetullin exchanged perspectives on the forthcoming second session of the Preparatory Committee of the Review Conference, slated to commence in Geneva in July.

Highlighting Russia's dedication to the provisions outlined in the NPT, Ryabkov underscored Moscow's resolve to bolster the nuclear non-proliferation regime through the treaty review process. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasised the nation's commitment to achieving the objectives of enhancing global security and stability in the realm of nuclear disarmament.
