Traveller Lucy Tranos perfectly visualises the “Instagram vs Reality” of visiting Santorini

Lucy Tranos can advertise the Greek Cycladic islands on Instagram but shows the reality when someone wants to take a souvenir photo in the most popular places of Santorini

The young vlogger presented the reality of trying to take a photo in a destination that has become “famous” on Instagram.

Lucy Tranos, the woman behind the travel blog lucyinthesskyy and is currently in Greece for a series of paid collaborations with local brands and designers.

The young photographer shared the background of one of her photos taken in Oia, Santorini, a popular destination for photographers because of its beautiful blue vaulted churches.

Although the image seemed to have no one next to it, there was a long line of tourists waiting for their chance to stand on a particular staircase and take a picture.

“Showing the reality behind Oia, Santorini 💫 It will most likely be packed at the famous sunset spot in Oia and people will be queuing up to take photos at the spots with the Blue Domes unless you get there at 7 am 🙈 Oia is one of the most beautiful towns in the world though so no wonder it attracts so many ppl! Would you wake up early to see the Oia without the crowds?!

“I have been to Santorini every summer during the last 3 years and every year it gets busier and busier! It was nice to see it empty in 2020 but def not the case currently.. If you want to experience Santorini with peaceful and more authentic vibe you should def stay away from the ‘hot’ spots mentioned and get lost in the alleys OR visit other villages like Imerovigli, Mesaria, Megalochori and Fira which are always less busier!”

Her 200,000 followers were shocked by the scenes shot by Lucy, with many being surprised by the crowds waiting for a single photo.

“I also visited it in the summer of 2020 and it was probably a unique opportunity in my life to see the island so empty,” a woman wrote in a comment.

“This will be me …. Get out of the way people! I need a solo photo,” wrote another user.

The blue domes of the churches of Agios Spyridon and the Resurrection in Oia are considered one of the most photographed churches in Santorini.

The two buildings are located right next to each other and are emblematic buildings of the Cycladic architecture of the island.

There are some great spots along the alleys west of the churches and they are often crowded towards the end of the day as people secure the best spot for the perfect sunset photo.

Lucy revealed that she has been visiting Santorini every summer for the last three years and every time she notices that the island is becoming more and more crowded.

However, Lucy seems to have a great weakness for the Greek Cycladic islands as apart from Santorini she took endless photos in Milos, Serifos, Symi, Tinos, Mykonos, Ios, Paros and Koufonisia.
