Sophia Loren

The municipality decided to make famous Italian actress Sophia Loren an honorary citizen of Hydra as a sign of gratitude for her great contribution to the island and cinema.

It is a fact that Sophia Loren loved the island and promoted it around the world through her film The Child and the Dolphin.

An unforgettable moment of the film is when the actress performs the Greek song, "Ti 'ne afto pou to lene agapi" (What is love called), which she sings in quite broken Greek, giving it another grace, ultimately making it even more unique.

According to the Municipality, Sophia Loren, as the protagonist of the film in Hydra in 1957, had her own decisive contribution to the tourism development of the island and Greece in general.

It is no coincidence that the Italian actress, who has visited amazing regions of the world, had declared to the New York Times that the Saronic island is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
