Athens International Airport Sets New All-Time Passenger Traffic Record in 2023

Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport set a new all-time record in 2023, totaling 28,174,150 passengers, breaking the 28 million passenger barrier for the first time and surpassing the previous record of 25.57 million set in 2019.

In December, passenger traffic reached 1.86 million, an increase of 17.1% compared to 2022 and 13.6% compared to 2019. Both domestic and international traffic exceeded the levels of 2022 by 11.9% and 19.4%, respectively. When compared to 2019, domestic and international traffic saw increases of 20.8% and 10.7%, respectively.

Overall, passenger traffic in 2023 increased by 24% compared to 2022 and 10.2% compared to 2019. Domestic traffic experienced an 18.9% increase from 2022, while international traffic saw a 26.4% increase over the same period. When compared to 2019, domestic and international traffic increased by 13.3% and 8.8%, respectively.

The total number of flights in 2023 was 241,604, which is a 13.2% increase from 2022 and a 7.1% increase from 2019. Both domestic and international flights increased by 7.4% and 18.1% compared to 2022, and by 10.5% and 4.6% compared to 2019, respectively.
