Two Women Killed as Car Crashes into Bus Stop in Veria

Two women were tragically killed today, April 1st, 2024, in a head-on collision at a bus stop in Patrida, Veria.

The accident occurred around 9:40am local when a vehicle driven by a 64-year-old man veered into oncoming traffic and ploughed into the bus stop. A 68-year-old woman was thrown 25 metres upon impact and died instantly. A 21-year-old woman was rushed to hospital in Veria but succumbed to her injuries later.

The driver told authorities that he felt dizzy and lost control of the car. He has been arrested and faces charges of manslaughter by negligence. The Traffic Police Department of Veria is investigating the exact cause of the accident.

Residents of Patrida expressed shock and grief over the loss of their neighbours. "We have all gone mad. She would come by bus to come to the hospital where I was with my wife," the uncle of the deceased 21-year-old described to Mega.
