The Municipality of Athens is gearing up for its 3rd “This is Athens – City Festival,” set to commence in May with an extensive lineup of more than 250 events showcasing the city’s landmarks and cultural vibrancy.
Scheduled to launch on May 1, the festival, organised by the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency (ADDMA), aims to emphasise sustainability while offering a diverse program tailored to residents and visitors alike.
Ioannis Georgizas, CEO of ADDMA, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming festival, stating, “Athens will be on the minds of both residents and visitors, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our fantastic urban spaces and high-quality events.”
Highlights of the festival include:
- Athens Urban Picnic at Akadimia Platonos (Plato’s Academy) on May 1, featuring live music, DJ sets, educational workshops, kite shows, and performances.
- Family and the City celebration at Kypseli Municipal Market on May 12, offering creative activities and games for children and parents.
- Street Outdoors Party at Koumoundourou Square on May 12, transforming the square into a unique outdoor club.
- Piano City Festival at Amerikis Square on May 17, hosting over 100 concerts showcasing renowned artists and rising talents.
- Spinning Sessions at Kypseli Municipal Market on May 17, transforming the area into a unique spinning club.
- Flare the Square: skateboarding contest at Kotzia Square on May 18, featuring professional and amateur athletes.
- The Feast of Athens at Akadimia Platonos Park (Plato’s Academy Park) on May 19, offering music, dance, and tradition.
- The journey of the serenade from the Ionian Islands to Athens, a musical walk in the alleys of Plaka on May 23.
- La Saramuya Fiesta at Amerikis Square on May 26, featuring Latin American entertainment with salsa, cumbia, and mambo.
- Food and wine experience with a guided tour of the National Gallery on May 29.
- Victoria Square Party at Victoria Square on May 31, featuring music selections of well-known DJs.
- Attiko Alsos Sunset Street Party at Tourkovounia Hill on June 1, offering a unique sunset experience.
- Athens All Star Party at Lycabettus parking lot on June 2, transforming Lycabettus hill into a dance floor.
The festival promises a huge array of experiences, celebrating Athens’s cultural richness and inviting participants to explore the city’s vibrant spirit.
