Greek journalists, along with public health workers, have launched a nationwide 24-hour strike on Tuesday, 18 February 2025, protesting unpaid wages and demanding fair labour conditions.
The Panhellenic Federation of Journalists’ Associations (POESY), in coordination with its member unions, has called for a complete work stoppage for all journalists in both private and public media. The strike began at 5:00 AM on Tuesday and will last until 5:00 AM on Wednesday, 19 February.
As part of the protest, union members have planned a demonstration at 12:00 PM outside the offices of the newspaper KYGI and the radio station Sto Kokkino 105.5 in central Athens. The action aims to support media workers who have reportedly been unpaid for at least three months.
Simultaneously, the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Employees (PDEDN) and the Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) have also announced a 24-hour nationwide strike in the healthcare sector. Their key demands include wage fairness, full staffing of public health institutions with permanent employees, and the conversion of temporary contracts into indefinite ones.
The strikes highlight ongoing labour struggles in Greece, as workers across sectors continue to push for job security and fair pay amid economic pressures.
