On March 24, 2025, the Bay of Aphrodite in Piraeus became a stirring scene of national pride as the Greek flag was unfurled across the sea, marking the National Anniversary of March 25, 1821.

This annual tribute, organised by the Municipality of Piraeus, evoked deep emotion and admiration among onlookers, celebrating the heroic struggles of the Greek Revolution and the nation’s historic naval victories.

The iconic blue and white flag was placed on the water’s surface in a symbolic gesture, carried out with precision by the Association of Greek Frogmen, alongside support from the Greek Red Cross, the Coast Guard, the Central Port Authority of Piraeus, the Hellenic Yacht Club, the Hellenic Coast Guard, and the Piraeus Amateur Fishermen’s Association “Agios Nikolaos.” The event, now in its fifth consecutive year, was accompanied by the stirring sounds of the National Anthem and patriotic marches performed by the Philharmonic Wind Orchestra of the Municipality of Piraeus.

I extend my gratitude to Deputy Mayor Andriana Zarakeli, the Greek Frogmen Association, and everyone who made this possible. Happy birthday to all Greeks and Piraeus residents!”

Happy birthday to all!”

Adding to the festivities, the Tower of Piraeus will shine in blue and white on March 24 and 25, illuminated in partnership with Piraeus Tower S.A. as part of the anniversary celebrations. The event also saw the presence of notable figures, including Deputy Mayors Nikitas Golfis, Kyriaki Bourdakou, and Panagiotis Reppas, Acting Municipal Councillor Giorgos Vitas, and General Secretary Vassilis Tataropoulos, among others.

For Greeks worldwide, the sight of the flag billowing over the Piraeus sea serves as a poignant reminder of their ancestors’ bravery and the enduring spirit of a nation born from struggle.
