A 37-year-old foreign national was apprehended in the early hours of Friday, March 21, accused of a string of hotel robberies in the Attica region.
The suspect faces charges of repeated robbery, violence against employees, forgery, and violations of laws related to drugs and weapons, according to the Hellenic Police (ELAS).
The arrest was carried out by officers from the Southeastern Attica Crime Investigation and Prosecution Sub-Directorate, following a month-long investigation into reported robberies targeting hotel staff. A special police task force, formed to tackle the case, identified the suspect through a meticulous analysis of intelligence and evidence. The 37-year-old was caught in the act as he attempted to enter a hotel in Glyfada, where he resisted arrest and brandished a plastic gun in an effort to flee.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect operated primarily in the early morning hours, posing as a guest with a forged ID to gain entry to hotels. Once inside, he allegedly threatened staff with a weapon to steal cash. A search of his belongings uncovered a plastic pistol used in the robberies, a counterfeit identity card, a fake driver’s licence, a small quantity of raw cannabis, and €405 in cash.
So far, authorities have linked the suspect to five hotel robberies in Skaramagas, Glyfada, Elliniko, Agios Dimitrios, and Exarchia. Additionally, he was wanted under two arrest warrants and an order related to serial robberies and illegal weapon possession. The suspect has been brought before the competent prosecutor for further legal proceedings.
This arrest underscores ongoing efforts by Greek authorities to curb crime in urban and tourist-heavy areas, providing a sense of relief to hotel workers and residents alike.
