In the early hours of Saturday, April 5, 2025, a group of 58 migrants disembarked on Gerokampos beach along the southern coast of Heraklion, within the Municipality of Gortyna. The group, comprising 57 men and one woman, arrived at dawn and is set to be transferred to a temporary accommodation facility in Heraklion later today.

Authorities report that the majority of the migrants identified themselves as Egyptian nationals, with a smaller number claiming to be from Sudan. The arrival marks another instance of migrant landings on Crete, a trend that has seen increased activity in recent months.
