Hellenic Presidential Guard (Evzones) to Visit Greek Community Home for the Aged Sydney, Australia – 16 April 2025

Sydney to Host Greek Presidential Guards for ANZAC Week 2025

The Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales is thrilled to announce a historic visit by the Hellenic Presidential Guard – the Evzones – to the Greek Community Home for the Aged in Earlwood. This significant cultural event is scheduled for Wednesday, 30 April 2025, at 1:00 PM at 2 Woolcott Street, Earlwood, NSW 2206.

In Sydney to honour ANZAC Week commemorations, the Evzones are more than ceremonial soldiers; they are living symbols of Greek heritage, embodying resilience, courage, and national pride. Originating from elite fighters of the Greek War of Independence, the modern Presidential Guard stands watch at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens and represents Greece at global events, connecting the diaspora to their homeland.

Dressed in their iconic attire – the fustanella, red tsarouhia shoes, and precision choreography – the Evzones carry the essence of Hellenism, showcasing a timeless cultural legacy.

“This visit is a profound honour, particularly for our elderly residents who have cherished Greek traditions throughout their lives,” said Mr. Harry Danalis, President of the Greek Orthodox Community of NSW. “The Evzones’ presence celebrates our shared heritage and pays tribute to the sacrifices made for our freedom.”

The community is warmly invited to join this rare and heartfelt occasion to celebrate Hellenic pride and honour our elders.
