Clarinetist Petros-Loukas Chalkias Passes Away

With profound sadness, we mourn the loss of Petros-Loukas Chalkias, a legendary figure in Epirus traditional music and a masterful clarinetist. His music brought the vibrant essence of Greek tradition to audiences worldwide. Born in 1934 in Delvinaki, Ioannina, Chalkias was immersed in Epirus’ musical traditions from childhood. His clarinet became an extension of his soul, marked by unparalleled virtuosity and a distinctive sound. Beyond preserving tradition, he revitalized and enriched it, captivating listeners with every performance.
