Athens, 9 December 2025 – Greece has once again proven itself a global gastronomic superpower: in the freshly released TasteAtlas Awards 2025/26 “100 Best Food Regions in the World”, seven Greek regions stormed the rankings, with Crete claiming an incredible 3rd place worldwide.
Greece’s spectacular performance:
- Crete – 3rd place globally (4.42/5)
- Macedonia – 5th (4.41)
- Cyclades – 6th (4.41)
- Peloponnese – 8th (4.40)
- North Aegean – 10th (4.38)
- Thessaly – 15th (4.34)
- Ionian Islands – 37th (4.21)
This means Greece has more entries in the Top 15 than any other country, beating culinary giants like Italy, France, Spain, and Japan.
The only regions ranked higher than Crete are Italy’s Campania (1st) and Emilia-Romagna (2nd). Sicily (4th) is the only other non-Greek region in the top 4.
