Festive Visit: Cretan Traditions Bring Christmas Joy to Greece's Ministry of Tourism

On Christmas Eve 2025, the historic Ómilos Vrakofóron Krítis (Club of Vraka-Wearers of Crete) visited the Ministry of Tourism in Athens, delighting staff with traditional Cretan Christmas carols (kalanta) and dances.

Greece's Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni , a proud Cretan herself, joined the group in performing traditional island dances with great enthusiasm. In a heartfelt post on X, she shared a video of the joyful moment and reflected on the deeper meaning of Crete's heritage.

"The historic 'Ómilos Vrakofóron Krítis' visited us today at the Ministry of Tourism and sang Crete's Christmas carols. With great joy, we danced traditional dances of our island together.

Crete is values, history, tradition, struggle, and a deep sense of responsibility. It is people who work hard, respect the visitor, and protect their land. This is the Crete that stands out timelessly, the Crete we love, and the one that will continue to represent us.

The Ómilos Vrakofóron Krítis, founded in 1973 in Rethymno, is one of Greece's most prominent cultural associations dedicated to preserving Cretan traditions. Known for their iconic vraka (traditional baggy breeches) attire, the group promotes Cretan dance, music, song, and theater through performances across Greece and abroad.

This festive visit highlights the enduring spirit of Greek regional traditions during the holiday season, blending cultural pride with the warmth of Christmas celebrations.

Χρόνια Πολλά! Merry Christmas!
