Ria Ellinidou Opens Up: "I Don't Want My Personal Life Discussed More Than My Work"

Rising Greek singer Ria Ellinidou gave a rare and candid interview on ERT's "Studio 4" on Christmas Day, reflecting on her early start in music, family sacrifices, and her firm boundaries with fame—especially regarding rumours about her relationship with model and TV personality Dimitris Alexandrou.

"I've been working since I was 13—I loved it," Ellinidou shared. "Singing at cultural events felt more exciting than hanging out with friends. I could have waited a few years to experience normal teenage things, but I was driven to succeed and 'get rich' early."

She credited her strong work ethic to her parents: "My father always said, 'Don't waste time—while you're sleeping, someone else is making history.' I grew up hearing 'good things come through hard work.'"

The breakout success of her hit "Kati Xereis" marked a turning point. "The day it released in March, I was flying to Santo Domingo with my mom. I had no idea it would blow up—I was just singing it there, making videos with locals, in my own world."

Success, however, brings pressure: "You barely enjoy one hit before stressing about the next. I always aim for quality collaborations and to excel in everything."

On fame's downside, Ellinidou emphasised responsibility: "As public figures, we set examples for those who admire and imitate us. I don't want to be a bad influence in what I wear or sing—I strive to set a good one."

She expressed frustration with intrusive gossip: "I care about opinions from people I respect, not strangers. As my grandmother says, you can't sew shut people's mouths. Sometimes fame spoils things—I skip going out for coffee on a Friday because of crowds."

Most pointedly, amid ongoing rumours linking her romantically to Dimitris Alexandrou (with recent reports of joint public appearances confirming their couple status), she said: "I don't want them discussing my personal life more than my work—it bores me. People care who I'm dating, but shouldn't I be sure myself before announcing it? They once said I was with a tall guy who turned out to be my brother."

Ellinidou also missed family time during holidays: "My family's scattered across Greece and abroad—I'd love if they could visit my shows."

Her thoughtful stance highlights a young artist prioritising artistry and privacy in Greece's spotlight-intensive celebrity scene.
