An extremely large Greek flag hangs in front of the Town Hall of the Municipality of Dirfys-Messapia, in Evia.

On his own initiative and at his own expense, businessman Charalampos Konstantakis (President & CEO of Evoiki Zimi), ordered the huge flag on the occasion of the bicentennial of the Greek War of Independence.

It marks 200 years since the beginning of the Greek revolution that secured Greece’s independence after centuries of Ottoman Turkish tyranny.

On March 25, 2021, bridges and buildings in Massachusetts, will be illuminated with the colours of Greece, to commemorate the bicentennial of the Greek War of Independence.

Massachusetts is the most populous state in the New England region of the United States.

According to Greece’s Consul General in Boston, Stratos Efthymiou, five iconic bridges across the state, including the cable-stay Zakim Bridge and two landmarks will be illuminated in blue and white.
