"I wanted to carry on those films’ unique comic sensibility but also explore the world of Greece. I wanted to capture its magic, which is not that hard to do because the country is so amazing."

As the production journeyed through Greece, the search for the perfect locations became paramount. Armstrong revealed, "When we arrived in Athens, we tried to do as much as we could do there for practical reasons. We shot in Athens for two weeks. Next, we needed to find the right island."
The central theme of the film was to discover Gus' ancestral home, nestled in a fictional Greek village that would represent the heart of Greece itself. This quest led them to explore Northern Greece, the west side of the country, and various islands, each offering a unique charm.
Armstrong described their criteria, saying, "The main focus was to find someplace with a grand neo-classical style and the faded grandeur of once-beautiful buildings. We found in Corfu most of what we were looking for."

While stationed in Athens, Armstrong took regular flights to explore the villages of Corfu, meticulously scrutinising each village on the island. Eventually, the production settled on a combination of three different locations to create the fictional village at the heart of the story: Varypatades, Sokraki, and Bouas Village in Danilia. The latter, created by the Bouas family in the 1970s, is a recreation of a traditional Corfu village.
