Mitsotakis to Mahmoud Abbas: Palestinian Authority the only legal representative of Palestinian people

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis spoke on the phone with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday, reported ERT, citing Greek government sources.

The Greek premier expressed his deep concern about the Gaza Strip situation while underlining that there should be an uninterrupted supply of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

He also reiterated his recent Cairo Peace Summit message to condemn the October 7 terrorist attacks.

Mitsotakis again underlined Greece's stance that Hamas is a terrorist organisation and does not represent the Palestinian people.

The only legal representative of the Palestinian people is the Palestinian Authority, Mitsotakis pointed out, while noting that Greece has always supported the two-state solution for the Palestinian issue.

In this context, only a political solution can guarantee peace between Israelis and Palestinians and stability in the region, he added.

Israel has launched relentless airstrikes on the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian terrorist group, Hamas, into Israeli territory on October 7.

More than 8,400 people have been killed in the conflict, including at least 7,028 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis.

Gaza's 2.3 million residents have been running out of food, water, medicine, and fuel, and aid convoys allowed into the besieged region have carried only a fraction of what is needed.
