Ömer Çelik: Israel is a gang of assassins, the US is worsening the situation

Ömer Çelik

Ömer Çelik blasts ideas of exiling Palestinians just weeks after Turkey helped ethnically cleanse Nagorno-Karabakh's indigenous Armenians and says Israel is not a country but an organisation of assassins.

Ömer Çelik, the spokesperson of Erdoğan's ruling Justice and Development Minister, applied what Westerners call the Goebbelsian tactics, even though the Turks had used these tactics long before the Nazi party came into existence.

He questions whether "can there be a more immoral proposition than that of exile?" Obviously, there is - the denial of genocide, which Turkey does. The Christians of the Ottoman Empire who were not killed between 1914 and 1923 were exiled from Turkey, the final act of the genocide, a genocide that Turkey still denies.

He then says, "You take the Palestinians from their land and say how you will exile them and send them to the territories of another country" - yet, this is exactly what Turkey and Azerbaijan forced, with the help of Israeli weapons, on the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh only in September.

As for his blasting of Israel killing children and civilians, I've already written about this hypocrisy considering Turkey's own current killing of Kurds, young and old, in northeast Syria.

Transcript:

"Everyone has memorised and uses one common phrase: 'Israel has a right to self-defence.' Of course, every sovereign state has a right of self-defence.

"But Israel's right to self-defence is not to kill children. Israel's right to self-defence is not to bomb defenceless civilians.

"On the one hand, because of the aggressiveness of the Netanyahu government, and on the other hand, because of the upcoming presidential elections in the USA, events became a matter of domestic politics, and many people lost their lives in bombings.

"And what was the first thing the US did? To send warships and aircraft carriers there. And now we have reached an even sadder point for a place like Gaza. They are discussing sending experienced American officials to Israel. For what reason? To support the ground operation that Israel is talking about.

"On the one hand, [the US] talks about respecting the rules, and on the other hand, you send the military so they can kill more people. At this moment, [the Americans] are doing nothing but contributing to the worsening of the conflict.

"Can there be a more immoral proposition than that of exile? That is, you take the Palestinians from their land and say how you will exile them and send them to the territories of another country. But who has such a right? That is Palestinian territory.

"The pursuit of worsening the conflict, the abandonment of diplomacy, the end of the search for political solutions, the rejection of a ceasefire and obstructing humanitarian aid is behaviour unbecoming of a state but an organisation of assassins."
