Greek Tourism Gears Up for Busy Season with Strong Domestic Bookings

Kefalonia

Domestic tourists are flocking to several mainland destinations, according to FedHATTA President Lysandros Tsilidis, as well as those known for their carnival celebrations - such as Patras, Xanthi, Skyros, Rethymno, Naoussa, Kastoria, Tirnavos, Kozani, Ioannina, Kefalonia, Rhodes, Amfissa, Kalamata, Galaxidi, and Corfu - with available accommodation reaching 90% capacity.

Package tours were also very popular, with sales up 10% compared to 2023, which itself saw a 30% increase over 2022, while prices remained competitive, Tsilidis reported.

Once these long weekends favoured by domestic tourists pass, tourism destinations are preparing to welcome international visitors. Most resorts will open for business in early April, and virtually all will be operational for the Orthodox Easter holidays in May. With positive indicators for 2024, there's a widespread expectation of another successful year for Greek tourism.
