Greece's hospitality sector emerged as a pivotal player in 2021, with significant contributions to both employment and economic value. Within the broader EU context, the Hellenic nation stood out with its vibrant accommodation and food service enterprises.

Comprising 1.9 million enterprises, Greece accounted for a substantial 6.1% of all enterprises active in the EU's business economy. These enterprises, classified under section I of the statistical classification of economic activities in the European Community (NACE), formed the cornerstone of Greece's economic activity in 2021.

Economic performance metrics further solidify Greece's standing within the EU's hospitality landscape. In terms of value added, Greece led the pack, contributing a notable 6.5% to the business economy, surpassing other EU counterparts. Cyprus followed closely behind with 6.0%, while Croatia secured a respectable 5.4%. At the other end of the spectrum, countries like Slovakia, Czechia, Poland, and the Netherlands trailed with relatively lower shares.

When it comes to employment, Greece's dominance within the sector becomes even more apparent. A staggering 19.6% of the business economy's workforce found employment within Greece's hospitality sector in 2021. Cyprus and Spain also boasted significant figures, with 13.5% and 9.5% respectively, further highlighting the sector's crucial role in job creation and economic stability within these nations.

In contrast, Poland, Slovakia, and Finland reported lower employment shares, signaling variations in the sector's contribution across EU member states. Despite these differences, Greece's hospitality sector emerges as a driving force, not only within the nation itself but also within the broader EU economic landscape, showcasing resilience, vitality, and economic prowess in the face of challenges.
