Ancient Greek Treasures Embark on Journeys to China and Australia in 2025

200 years of Greek Independence at the Hellenic Museum, Melbourne

Ancient Greece is set to captivate audiences in China and Australia with two major exhibitions in 2025, showcasing the nation’s rich history and cultural influence.

China to Host “A Journey to Ancient Greece”

From April 2025 to March 2026, “A Journey to Ancient Greece” will bring 177 ancient artifacts and nine replicas from various Greek archaeological museums and collections to China. The exhibition will be split between two venues: the Sanxingdui Museum (April–September 2025) and the Liangzhu Museum (October 2025–March 2026).

The exhibition’s narrative unfolds in two parts. “Dawn of Civilization” explores the foundational Cycladic, Minoan, and Mycenaean cultures. The exhibition then transitions to “Glory and Grandeur,” highlighting ancient Greece’s achievements in politics, philosophy, theater, and the arts. This section also examines Greek expansion through travel and colonization, mythology, artistic pursuits, the Olympic Games, and the legacy of Alexander the Great, whose conquests spread Greek culture across vast swathes of the ancient world.

“Rituals – Gifts to the Gods” Opens in Melbourne

Australia will also welcome a slice of ancient Greece with the exhibition “Rituals – Gifts to the Gods.” Running from March 25 to November 25, 2025, at the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne, this exhibition features 119 carefully selected antiquities. It explores the universal human desire to connect with the divine through religious beliefs and rituals, providing a fascinating glimpse into the spiritual life of ancient Greece.

These exhibitions, part of Greece’s cultural diplomacy initiatives, underscore the nation’s enduring legacy as a cradle of Western civilization and a premier cultural destination.
