Anafi Declared in State of Emergency as Seismic Activity Persists

The Greek island of Anafi has been placed under a state of emergency due to ongoing seismic activity, making it the third Aegean island to receive such a designation in recent days.

Civil Protection Secretary General Vassilis Papageorgiou announced the decision on Thursday, stating that the emergency status will remain in effect until March 13.

Anafi joins Amorgos and Thera (Santorini), which have already been under a state of emergency for over a week following a series of tremors. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the tremors continue to unsettle the region.

The emergency declaration ensures that priority assistance and resources are allocated to the affected islands, including disaster response teams and infrastructure assessments.

While seismic activity is not uncommon in the volcanic Cyclades region, the recent wave of tremors has raised concerns among residents and officials. The state of emergency will remain in place until mid-March, unless extended.

Greek authorities urge locals and visitors to stay alert and follow safety guidelines as seismic monitoring continues.
