Authentic Yellow Split Pea Dip Recipe
With just a few ingredients, you can create this authentic and delicious yellow split pea dip, perfect as a starter, mezze, or side dish. Add some fresh lemon juice, capers, or olives on top – it’s entirely up to you!
Ingredients:
- 500 grams yellow split peas
- 2 onions, chopped
- 1/3 liter olive oil (extra for drizzling)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method:
- Rinse the split peas thoroughly with water.
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan.
- Add the split peas to the saucepan and pour in water.
- Bring to a boil, then remove any froth that forms at the top of the saucepan.
- Add one chopped onion, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Cover and let it cook for about 45 minutes, or until the split peas have thickened.
- Blend the peas with a hand blender or place them in a food processor and mix until smooth and creamy.
- Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with the remaining chopped onion. Drizzle lightly with olive oil before serving.
Notes:
Serve with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and for an extra touch, add capers or olives on top for flavor. Enjoy!
