New Turkish provocations have surfaced, with politicians and media from Turkey describing the Greek islands Pserimos, Kinaro, and Levitha as “Turkish islands.” This claim followed a visit in September by Greek Minister of Defense Nikos Dendias to these islands, where he toured by helicopter and posed with Greek soldiers. Turkish sources argue that this visit violated the Treaty of Lausanne, sparking criticism and claims of airspace violations by figures like Eylem Ertugrul from the opposition Kemalist Republican People’s Party.
Imbros Island had almost five and a half thousand Greek inhabitants in the mid-1960s… Since then, the dream of all Imbros people has been the revival of the island’s Greek community. The Ecumenical Patriarchate no longer appears as a signatory on the current list on the website, which now states, however: “The Ecumenical Patriarchate attended the summit as observer and supports the principles set forth in the joint communique.”

Bahçeli, addressing his party’s parliamentary group, declared, “There is no Ecumenical Patriarch, nor a city named Constantinople.”
