30th Kalamata Dance Festival to Open July 12 with International Lineup

The 30th Kalamata Dance Festival is set to take place in the southern Greek city of Kalamata from July 12 to 21, organisers announced on Wednesday.

This year's festival will feature 19 productions, including performances from 10 Greek troupes and 9 international groups. The festival's educational segment will run from July 5 to 21. Performances will be staged at various locations, including the Dance Hall of Kalamata, public spaces, and venues in Tripolis, Pylos, and Nafplion, in partnership with local agencies. International performers will hail from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Serbia, Spain, Italy, Slovakia, and Mozambique.

Notably, the State Ballet of Hessen (Hessisches Staatsballett) will make its debut in Greece. The festival will showcase works by renowned choreographers Marco Goecke, Imre & Marne van Opstal, Botis Seva, and Josef Nadj, who will also perform on stage.

A press conference was held at the Museum of Cycladic Art, attended by Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, Deputy Culture Minister for Modern Cultural Issues Christos Dimas, Kalamata Mayor Thanassis Vassilopoulos, and Peloponnese Region Governor Dimitris Ptochos. Former directors of the festival were among the speakers at the event.
