TasteAtlas Awards: Greek Cuisine Ranked Third-Best in the World, Behind Italy and Japan

Taste Atlas Ranks Greek cuisine as Third Best in the World

The annual TasteAtlas rankings of the best cuisines, dishes, food cities, food products, and ingredients, as well as lists of legendary restaurants and cookbooks, have been published.

Experiential travel online guide for traditional food, Taste Atlas, recorded a total of 395,205 (271,819 valid) dish ratings, and 115,660 (80,863 valid) food product ratings.

Based on these ratings, the top 50 food items for each cuisine were extracted, and the best-rated cuisines in the world were ranked according to the average ratings of the best-rated dishes and food products of each country.

Italy and Japan recorded the same average rating of 4.65 out of a possible 5, but Italy has taken first place again this year due to a higher rating of its best-rated dish - pizza.

With a rating of 4.64, a score that was just 0.1 behind first place, the third best-rated cuisine in the world on the list is Greek, and you can view the entire list here: www.tasteatlas.com/best/cuisines

Best rated dishes

Based on the average user ratings for dishes, a list of the top 100 dishes in the world has been published. The best-rated dish for 2023 is the Brazilian meat cut Picanha, followed by Malaysian bread Roti Canai and Thai stir fry Phat Kaphrao.  According to Taste Atlas, the best rated Greek foods included Fava Santorinis, Kalamata, Fystiki Aeginas, Rodakina Naoussas. You can view the entire list here: www.tasteatlas.com/best/dishes.

Best restaurants to try Greek cuisine

The best restaurants to try Greek cuisine were named as  To Antikristo (Chania City), Peskesi (Heraklion), Taverna Ninos (Corfu City), Klimataria (Benitses), Elisabeth's Taverna (Doukades).

Best rated cheeses

From 1,378 catalogued cheeses and 36,551 recorded user ratings (24,296 valid), Italy’s Parmigiano Reggiano has been declared the best cheese in the world again this year. It is followed by two more Italian cheeses, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana and Strecchino. Following closely behind in 4th position is Greece’s Graviera Naxou cheese, with Melchlora in 14th place and the Greek nation’s most adored cheese Feta outrageously ranked as 88th out of 100 of the world’s best cheeses.  You can view the top 100 cheeses in the world here: www.tasteatlas.com/best/cheeses

In addition to these rankings, lists of the best food cities, best food regions, dishes and food products by category, as well as lists of the most legendary restaurants and cookbooks have been published.
