In 2023, EU tourism rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, with Greece’s island regions, including Kriti, Notio Aigaio, and Ionia Nisia, emerging as top destinations for foreign visitors. These areas saw over 90% of their tourist stays from international travelers, highlighting Greece’s strong appeal. Spain’s Canarias and Croatia’s Jadranska Hrvatska were the top regions overall, while France led in domestic tourism.
Nearly 80,000 Greeks utilized the “Social Tourism” program vouchers in June, with top destinations including Evia, Halkidiki, and Pieria. The program, aimed at subsidizing holidays for unemployed and lower-income families, will continue into 2024-2025 with an increased budget of 50 million euros, offering 300,000 new vouchers and extended stay options in specific regions.
