On December 28, 1915—110 years ago today—French forces occupied Kastellorizo at the request of its inhabitants, permanently ending Ottoman Turkish rule over Greece’s easternmost island. After passing through Italian control post-World War I, the Dodecanese island officially joined Greece in 1948.
