Bill Giannakouras is the founder and director of Greek City. Bill created the highly successful brand in 1998, which has become Australia’s longest running Greek Australian website and has since branched out to include Facebook, Instagram, Dating, Forum, Chat and Events. He has filled a niche in the market by creating a medium by which people are able to meet and to share their love of Greece and Greek culture. In 2016 Bill made the decision to take a new direction, teaming up with the existing GCT crew to create a global brand, Greek City Times. In addition to his affiliation with Greek City Times, Bill is a successful entrepreneur and IT Executive.
Penny Zalalas was named Editor-in-Chief of Greek City Times in January 2016. The Greek Australian editor graduated with a Mass Communications and Cultural Studies Degree from Macquarie University and began her career at News Limited working on both The Australian and Daily Telegraph newspapers. Penny has also held positions as a writer, assistant editor and editor on a number of lifestyle titles at ACP Magazines, Bars & Clubs, Hotel Management and Complete Weddings. She is founder of the popular Greek food blog Flavours & Flair, which highlights her love of Greek cuisine and culture. Penny’s love of journalism began at a young age and by 15 years old, she had produced and hosted a “Women in the Media” documentary, which one her an Excellence Award from the NSW Department of Education.
Natalie Martin is the founder of Sydney based marketing agency Cloud 10 Creative Communications. She brings to the Greek City Times team almost two decades of experience as well as her qualifications in Marketing, Communications and Copywriting. In 2004, Natalie became the first female and youngest ever Marketing Communications Manager at IPMG, the largest privately owned publishing and marketing communications company in the Southern Hemisphere, and at that time publisher of leading magazines including the Vogue titles, Australian Good Taste and Courier Newspapers and owner of Australia’s largest printing businesses Hannanprint, Offset Alpine Printing and Inprint Group. She was responsible for the recent corporate rebrand of IPMG and its transition into the current market positioning as leading marketing communications group in Australia. Natalie’s expertise includes creation and execution of marketing and communications plans and strategies; design and roll out of corporate brand identity; external and internal communications and event management.
Kevin August brings to the GCT team his creative vision, passion and boundless energy. From Northern California, Kevin August has lived and worked in San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles and now Sydney. A talented Creative Director, Kevin specializes in the areas of branding and creative design, photography and web development. Kevin has been lead consultant for many startup companies. With an enviable client list, Kevin has experience working for global brands including Apple and HP.
Anna Cominos is GCT’s Senior Features writer and brings with her a wealth of experience. Story Collector, blogger and adventurer, Anna Cominos grew up in the back of a milk-bar listening to her extended family tell stories. She completed her BA in Communications and set off to Greece, where she lived on and off for the next twenty years. The bi-cultural experience is Anna’s major theme and her creative versatility has seen her work on different festivals including Sydney Comedy Festival and The Greek Festival. Anna has been part of many seminal magazines including Metropolis Magazine, Kythera Summer Edition, Artswest and BAHZOOM and has written for various publications and blog sites.
Antonia Komarkowski is a second year student at the University of Sydney majoring in Modern Greek & Media & Communications. She is also on the Hellenic Club Sydney Youth Board. From a young age she loved dancing, public speaking, presenting, performing, m’cing, reading & writing. Antonia also has a passion for her Greek culture, which started at a very young age. Her parents say, “She could Greek Dance before she could run.” She loves learning about Greece’s rich history, traditions, music &language & teaches Greek dancing. Seeing kids smile every time they dance makes her ecstatic- as she knew that feeling. GCT is happy to have Antonia on board as a permanent writer.
Melbourne based Angela Kalias is an accomplished singer, songwriter, blogger, Creative Designer and Sales Executive. Her work includes web design and management, marketing, PR, styling and tour promotion- primarily within the Greek entertainment industry. Her passion for Greece, music, fashion and style translates in all she embodies and her infectious personality enthuses all. Angela has been a regular contributor for GC and now joins the GCT team, where she will bring the latest from the celebrity and entertainment world. Angela is passionate and dedicated to delivering the best with ultimate professionalism (and a touch of glam).
Jorge Sotiros has travelled the globe as a travel journalist covering the Arts, Environment, Politics and Culture and has written for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian Literary Review. Part philosopher, part adventurer and always the clown, Sotiros has travelled to 30 countries working as a foreign correspondent. Lonesome George Cést Moi! is his first book and recounts his travels in South America. He is currently finishing his book on the Greek crisis: GRAFFITI OVER MARBLE, to be published in 2017. He has also now joined GCT team as a regular columnist.
Anastasia is Editor-in-Chief of whyathens.com, an online magazine focusing solely on the city of Athens and the Attica region in Greece. Born in Sydney, Australia, both her parents come from the beautiful island of Rhodes. Her affiliation and love of Greece has always been strong and she is now permanently based in Athens, researching and experiencing all things Athenian. She is now also Greek City Times’ Athens contributor.
AGONAsport.com is an English based website for Greek sports fans across the world. The website launched this year and was created by Sarantos N.Kaperonis, an avid Greek American sports follower. The goal of AGONAsport Online is to provide a website, in English, that focuses exclusively on Greek Sports. GCT is now teaming up with AGONA to bring you all the latest in sports news.
Kevin Karakalpakidis is a NYC based photographer specialising in portrait photography. His work ranges from fashion to editorial and from lifestyle portraits to portfolio headshots. His Body of work is edgy and filled with dramatic lighting and great use of shadows to tell a story and express and emotion. Growing up Kevin has been involved in the Arts from a young age. He has also joined GCT as our NY based photographer.
Polina Paraskevopoulou is a Greek journalist who shares her time between her two beloved cities of Paris and Athens. With a love of writing, blogging, fashion and travel, she has now joined the GCT team as one of our main European contributors.

Maria Petropoulou is a Greek journalist currently working in a leading Greek news site. London. She also owns the travel blog My Landing Runway, where you can find all her travel stories and wanderings. DEEP END also known as DIMITRI VELEN, has become a house hold name within the Greek community thanks to his relentless love for Greek music & performances over 15 years at a variety of Greek bars & clubs in Australia and worldwide. Born with passion for music & in particular Greek tunes, he is now into his 16th year of DJ’ing and has also become GCT’s regular music man.
Christina Elizabeth Ionnides
Christina Elizabeth Ioannides is a fifth year Hellenic Studies student at York University in Toronto, Canada and the current President of the Hellenic Students’ Association of York University, and Vice President of the Classical Studies Students’ Association of York University. Christina is also joining the GCT team as one of our regular Canadian contributors.
Dora Tsavdaridis gave up her life as a journalist in Sydney, Australia for Mykonos, Greece in 2008 and says it was the best thing she ever did.
Working in some of the island’s most exclusive establishments has given her a wealth of knowledge and contacts in all things to do with and in Mykonos. She has now become an exclusive VIP Concierge host and will also be sharing all her local Myconian tips on GCT.
Eleni Elefterias Kostakidis
Eleni Elefterias Kostakidis is Associate Lecturer in Modern Greek at University of Sydney, a coordinator for Vault performance Space and owner of the Greek Bilingual Bookshop. Eleni is also GCT’s book reviewer.
Born and bred in Melbourne, Sue has an absolute passion for her Greek heritage. Being a qualified teacher of Greek LOTE, she admires everything about her culture and Greek Australian upbringing. Sue is one of GCT’s regular Melbournian contributors.
Melina is a children’s multicultural educator, consultant and author. Having moved from her birthplace in Greece to Australia at the age of 6, Melina is passionate about helping other children understand and appreciate their own cultural heritage and that of others. A trained early childhood educator, Melina is committed to sharing her knowledge on various cultural sensitivities.

Jeanine Sophia Papacharalambous is a graduate of York University where she obtained a degree in Communication Studies along with a post-graduate certificate in Public Relations from Seneca College in Toronto. She is an inquisitive communicator and a proud Greek Canadian with a passion for writing, content curation and investigative journalism. Jeanine joins the GCT team as a regular Canadian contributor.
Gina is a third generation Greek Australian who grew up immersed in her Greek heritage, including the language, traditions, culture and listening to her grandparent’ mesmerising tales about life in Greece. Passionate about ensuring the Greek language is not forgotten among the younger generations, in 2002 she became a panel member on the SBS Greek radio show ‘Let’s Talk Openly’. She graduated with a Media and Communications degree from the University of Sydney and has put her lifelong passion for writing to use working in social media, public relations and advertising. Gina now joins GCT’s team as a writer.
Victoria is a world traveller, and photographer, who spends at least half the year out of Australia. She’s been to all continents in the world except Antarctica. Her extensive travels to India, South America, Africa, Europe & Asia has given her experience in multiple cultures, places, people & has been accepted into families, religious rituals & social events as a local, with many stories to tell. Perhaps her love of people & travels started with her studies in Sociology & Anthroplogy (BA) Arts at Monash University & a Masters of Mkt (Dir Mkt) at Monash. Her ‘go get’ it attitude & enthusiasm is sure to encourage many people to share with her their stories for GCT.
Alexia Amvrazi enjoys the thrill of discovering beauty in the world around her. With a passionately hands-on approach to Greece’s travel, gastronomy, holistic living, culture, innovation and creativity, for 20 years she has explored and shared her findings with the world on all aspects of the country and its people via writing, radio, blogs and videos. Although her childhood and early youth in Italy, Egypt and England left her feeling somewhat root-less, she is by now firmly connected to her native land, bravely weathering the hurricane known as the Greek crisis!
